With digital technology playing a huge role in enabling the reduction of emissions globally, a new research report from think step-anz and Spark reveals the local opportunity for the first time.
The report combines global research with modelling that focuses on New Zealand’s unique agriculture-heavy emissions profile and the amount of renewable electricity we generate.
With New Zealand needing to reduce emissions by 17 million tonnes to meet its Emissions Budget at 2030, the report findings show that digital technology can help deliver a staggering 42% of the reductions needed.
The report highlights 3 sectors where there is the most significant opportunity to reduce emissions through digital technology. Those sectors are:
- Transport
- Energy and Industry
- Agriculture
Innovative digital technology from Critchlow Geospatial will be at the forefront of New Zealand’s transition to a low carbon economy for many industries, but particularly when it comes to the Transport and Agriculture sectors.
Transport technology solutions such as SwitchMyFleet and Smart Routing will help accelerate the transition to EV fleets and reduce emissions for businesses of all sizes.
When it comes to agriculture and primary industries, next generation satellite imagery and derived data from Critchlow’s Satellite Imagery Marketplace will revolutionise the way these organisations monitor their physical assets remotely, reducing the need for commuting, site inspections and polluting aerial surveys.
Achieving New Zealand’s emissions targets will be challenging, but as this report demonstrates the opportunities are extensive – and the time to start is now.
